The Fray · Gate system

Thessaly Deep

The farthest gate stop in the sector, and it runs on grant money.

Character

A small scientific and exploration outpost, partly funded by outside interest (both Ophira's Archive and Kestrel's Exchange Council quietly bankroll research here), because the system sits adjacent to a substantial field of Precursor ruins.

Economy

Exports research findings, salvaged study-only Precursor artifacts, and expedition guiding services. Imports almost everything else — this system runs on grants and investment more than trade.

Wealth

Poor to middling, but well-equipped in the specific ways that matter to its work, even if creature comforts are an afterthought.

Rumors & mysteries

The nearby ruin field is vast, and only a fraction of it has been surveyed. Thessaly Station is also the launch point for the partially-known Leviathan route to Hollowmere.

Places

Who lives here

Thessaly Station (Station)

Capital: No capital — a single habitat

A research and survey station, not a full colony: scientists, surveyors, and the support staff and security they need. Population small, funding external, coffee perpetually rationed.

Interior
Nitrogen-oxygen, recycled
Interior pressure

Signal lag

The Ruin Field (Precursor ruins)

Capital: Uninhabited

A substantial field of Precursor ruins adjacent to the system. It is vast, and only a fraction of it has been surveyed. This is the entire reason anyone funds Thessaly Deep.

Span
3.1 km
Orbit
1.70 AU
Orbital period
2.7 years
Average temp.
-138.3 °C
Signal lag
14.1 min from the star

Figures describe the largest surveyed fragment. The field extends well past it.

Rasmene-b (Planet)

Capital: Sounding Post

An ice world well outside the Ruin Field, carrying the Accord's deep listening station. Sounding Post is nine researchers on eighteen-month rotations, pointed outward rather than inward, on the argument that whatever built the ruins did not necessarily come from here.
